Officer Michael Owens
Died in the Line of Duty
August 26, 1992

On Wednesday, August 26, 1992 at approximately 4:00 a.m. Hutchins Police Officer Michael Owens, while on duty, responded to a request for assistance from a Corsicana Police Officer who was chasing a vehicle with suspects wanted for kidnapping, robbery and shooting at officers. After the vehicle ran out of gas, Officer Owens and the Corsicana Officer became involved in a foot chase and struggle when they caught the suspect. Officer Owens complained of chest pains and was transported to Baylor Hospital in Dallas.

Hutchins Police Officer Michael Wayne Owens died of a heart attack approximately two hours after being involved in a foot chase and struggle while attempting to arrest the wanted suspect.

At the time of his death Michael Wayne Owen was survived by his wife and three children. He was also survived by his parents, sisters and grandparents. Michael Wayne Owen is buried at Edgewood Cemetery, Lancaster, Texas.
